ORAL BIBLE TRANSLATION (OBT)

BRING GOD'S WORD TO THE NATIONS

EVERY TRIBE, EVERY TONGUE, EVERY LANGUAGE

Across Papua New Guinea, nearly 300 languages still have no Bible—and most of these represent oral cultures where truth is passed down through storytelling, song, and speech. For these communities, a written Bible isn’t what they need. They need to hear God’s Word in their own language.

At YWAM Madang, we believe that every person deserves access to the Gospel in the way they understand best. Through Oral Bible Translation (OBT), we work alongside local churches and native speakers to record and distribute the Bible in audio form—beginning with the book of Ruth and expanding from there. This approach not only honors oral traditions but also makes the message of Jesus immediately accessible, allowing people to hear and respond to the Word of God in a deeply personal way.

Starting with the 35 Bible-less languages in our province, we’re building relationships, training local translators, and planting the seeds of long-term discipleship through listening groups, Bible studies, and community engagement. Each step brings the Gospel closer to communities that have waited generations to hear it.
